Courtney Marie Antrum, age 31, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, at Advent Hospital, Daytona Beach. Courtney was born to Jude Antrum and Nichole Shotwell in Springfield, Massachusetts. She moved to Daytona Beach as a small child where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Seabreeze High School in 2007. Courtney had many passions, she loved to write, she loved her super heroes (Batman was her favorite), anime, unicorns, and anything that sparkled. However, her greatest passion was her love for animals. If she could take all the stray animals home with her, she would. She had a contagious laugh and a great sense of humor making light of the simplest things. Her friends would always make her laugh by saying "Naners" instead of Bananas, their inside joke. She was a light, brightening the lives of those who were around her.

One the things that will always stick in my mind are the times I was hanging with you. You, me, Ali and Atiya having girl time. Courtney, you're confidence is amazing and made me feel more confident myself when I wasn't quite feeling it. Dude, you're a shining star. I'll miss those last moments forever.

Back in high school I knew Courtney a little bit, but we didn’t become good friends until years later. She’s one of the kindest souls I’ve ever had the privilege to know. When she entered a room, it always seemed a little brighter, and she could always make you smile no matter how bad a mood you were in. Our game nights rping, and anime talk were the best times. I’ll never forget our random run in at the mall that turned into a shopping spree, or her singing and dancing in my car during rides home. She will be missed dearly, and I will never forget the good times. There will never be another person like her.

Despite not knowing Courtney as long, she still made a tremendous impact on my life. She helped me through several very hard years that would have been intolerable without her. I will miss so much the endless hours of creating we did, of being able to have fun and make jokes in any environment, and even just being on the phone with each other in comforting silence. While most people are good and have reasonable morals, Courtney actually embodied her morals in everyday life. Almost always, when she passed a homeless person or an animal in trouble, she would somehow intervene to help; either by giving some of the little money she had or simply checking on them to make sure everything was all right. She was an incredible, incomparable friend and all of us are better for having known her, but now the world is worse without her. I’m not sure if I could ever truly match her level of compassion, to feel and understand what others are going through so fully, but I will try.

I've never met a kinder and more passionate person than Courtney. I can't count how many hours we spent weaving stories together or the countless others we spent supporting each other through daily tribulations and towards our goals. We taught each other many things from my mad organizational skills to her deep boundless compassion. Researching what we didn't and growing together as adults since we only truly began to know each other after high school even though we had been in each other’s orbits for far longer. She became a deeper part of my life during one of my lowest years about a decade ago now, like serendipity herself. I can only assume, that even though we all can agree that it’s not fair she’s gone now, that she leaves us in the same measure. With her sweet memories to bring us the same warmth she put out into the world. Light shinning into the darkness that we can always, fortunately, discover.

I met Courtney 17 years ago freshman year of high school, and we have been part of each others lives since. She was my spirit sister and best friend. She was such an amazing and bright soul, so kind and full of laughter. We would watch anime and read manga nonstop, and she got me into RPing, she also taught me how to be confident and showed me I wasn’t alone in the world. She was not just an amazing friend but she was an amazing aunt to my children, who miss her dearly. The world will not be the same without her in it.

Courtney exceeded all expectations, she lived longer than expected but is gone far sooner, she conquered disease and pain on a daily basis, she was strong, independent and beautiful, her posts, especially in her makeup and costumes made me smile every time, such an artist! Courtney will be so dearly missed by all of her loving family and friends, especially her devastated parents. God Bless
