OBITUARY

Daniel Barnes

May 7, 1957March 16, 2011

A mass of Christian burial for Daniel H. Barnes, 53, who passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 with his wife and daughter holding his hand, will be Monday, March 21, 2011, 1:00 pm at The Basilica of St. Paul Church, 317 Mullally Street, Daytona Beach. The family will be receiving friends on Sunday, March 20, 2011 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange. The interment will be at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, immediately following the service.

Daniel was born in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to the area in 1980 from Akron, Ohio, where he grew up. He was employed at Covidien in DeLand where he was a Technician. He was a member of The Basilica of St. Paul Church and the ELKS club. He loved boating and fishing but his passion was his family. Daniel had an inquisitive mind and was able to analyze “what made things and people tick”. Fortunately, God gave him the ability to repair all things mechanical and the gift to treat everyone he met with sensitivity and compassion.

Daniel leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 27 years, Joyce; mother, Patricia Stein, Edgewater; son, Tristan Barnes, Iowa; daughter, Stephanie (Jody) Baker, Port Orange; two brothers, Robert Barnes, DeLand and Michael Stein, Edgewater; sister, Kathi Kovacs, Ohio; five grandchildren; two nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Volusia/Flagler Unit, 1737 North Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 140, Daytona Beach, Florida 32117. Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Port Orange. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.volusiamemorialfuneral.com.

Danny & I were very close, in high school. We'd spend countless hours in deep conversation about life, philosophy, the wonders of nature, ect. Yes. Danny loved to fish! We'd spend time together making lures and fishing flies! Though we lost touch after graduation, I've thought of him often throughout my life. How blessed for him & his family that he found true love, then expressed that love with children! Be at peace, knowing that he will always be with you. He will send you little signs that mean 'I love you" May God bless you and surround you with Angels.

Joyce - Two months ago one of my dearest friends passed away. Losing Dan was like losing a family member. My heart still grieves for him. He was always kind, loving and caring to me and mine. I never felt like I was just another person. He always made me feel special. Christmas Eve is going to be a sad time this year, but we will get through it together. I love you, Stephanie and Jodi very much.
Til Les passed I did not know of this site or I would have writen sooner.

Joyce, I was so saddened at the loss of your beloved Dan. Dan was the kind of man that made you feel like a friend right from the start. He had a devotion to you and Stephanie, that was very apparent and showed that he had a huge loving heart. I will miss him. May GOD bless you and may he give strength during this trying time. With love and deepest sympathy, Phil and Jill Dobos
