As a child, David grew up in the Daytona Beach community as “Dr. McCall’s son,” a title (and forehead) he proudly claimed. Throughout his childhood David spent many summers in Astor, Florida on the water, boating, fishing and enjoying life to the fullest. He became a true Gator fan as a young boy and devoted many weekends to cheering on his favorite team.
David met the love of his life Debbie at an early age at Seabreeze Junior High. They would later marry in their twenties and spend the next 43 years together, surprising their wedding party and surpassing the 6 months they thought it would last. Together they raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Maggie, and rescued three dogs, Vick, Gator and Stella.
A genuinely selfless man, David made time for every person he encountered. If you needed someone to help with odd jobs around the house, to pray over you and be a listening ear, or to simply dress up as Santa Claus and make your holiday celebration even more special – David was the guy. He enjoyed spending time helping others and making them laugh.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife Debra, his two daughters Elizabeth McCall and Maggie (Brian) Weaver, his granddaughter Parker Grace Weaver, his three sisters Peggy Keene, Sarah Larson, Martha Gray and an extensive list of friends that were like family to him. His passing is preceded by his father Dr. Joel V. McCall, his mother Helen Kritzer, his mother-in-love Beverly Gregg and his extended family Claire “Queenie” Kasprow-Meyers.
A strong man of faith, David dedicated his life to the lord and we take solace in knowing he is now at peace in heaven. “Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths,” Proverbs 3:5-6.
David will be honored in a celebration of life on August 14, 2021, at Dignity Memorial Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida. Visiting hours are from 10 am–12 pm, with a short ceremony at noon. We ask that everyone wear orange and blue or Gators attire in celebration of David’s life.
