Dorothy K. McGuire

Dorothy K. McGuire (Dee), 98, of Port Orange, formerly of Ponce Inlet, Florida, died peacefully in her sleep on January 3, 2019. Born in Forest City, PA, she had resided in Bronx, NY, Los Angeles, CA, West Pomfret, VT, Jamaica, West Indies, and Ormond Beach, Ponce Inlet and Port Orange, Florida. She was a proud member of the US Marine Corps and a WWII Marine Veteran. She worked as a Dental Assistant in NY, Dietary Staff at Cedar Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, and in many community organizational positions in her various residences.

Dorothy loved new adventures and enjoyed traveling and exploring the world with her late husband, Thomas P. McGuire. She was very involved with the Irish American Club, her church and homeowners association. Despite her busy schedule, family and friends were Dee’s passion and purpose in life. She is predeceased by her parents, Johanna and Valentine Kress, her husband of 70 years, Thomas P. McGuire, and her 10 siblings.

She is survived by her loving 5 children, Eileen Weigel, her husband William of East Brunswick, NJ, Kathleen Hendricks and family of Milltown, NJ, Debbie Ledbetter and family of Ormond Beach, Cheryl Yoakum and husband Robert of Accident, MD, and Thomas P. McGuire Jr. and his wife Collen of South Daytona Beach, FL, as well as 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass for Dorothy K. McGuire will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Church of the Epiphany, 201 Lafayette Street, Port Orange, FL. Family will receive friends Friday, January 11, 2019, from 5 pm to 7 pm at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange FL.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in Dorothy K. McGuire’s name to Halifax Hospice 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129
