

Douglas A McCarver. A man of great strength and perseverance, passed away, May 6, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer at the age of 63. He was a man of hope who believed that without hope you don’t have anything. Doug was a graduate of Dayton University, Dayton Ohio where he was a member of the baseball team. After graduating from college he began his career as a teacher. In 1978 he moved to Florida and pursued his calling as a Firefighter. He joined the Daytona Beach Fire Department and grew through the ranks retiring on 2/27/2007 as a Battalion Chief after 28 years of service.Doug was looked upon as a confident leader, firefighting mentor, and most of all... Friend. Those who know Doug best can share endless stories of the impact he had on them both personally and professionally. Doug had many interests; he was an avid New York Yankee and New York Giant’s fan, Doug was the Captain of the Haf -n-Haf Charter fishing boat and had a passion for fishing. Doug loved golfing and spent many hours golfing in Florida and North Carolina. He loved his family and friends, and pursuing the outdoors. Doug loved his Lodge Cabin in North Carolina, he always felt that "life was good in the Mountains". He cherished his wife Kathy of 37 years. He truly loved being a husband and father, and always supported his daughters in their activities. Doug's resilience through the years of struggle serve as a testament to his strength and character. Doug is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughters; Erin Fisher and her husband James, Orlando, FL and Kelly McCarver of Baltimore, MD.; and his brother, Dennis McCarver and his wife Peggy of Phoenix AZ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Thursday (May 14) at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange. Immediately following there will be a celebration of life service at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 4815 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange.
