

Emma Jean Whorley Brown ( nee Dubbs) died unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct 17, 2021 at Advent Hospital, Daytona Beach, FL. She was 89, just short of her 90th birthday. She was still of sound mind and although limited in mobility, involved with friends and family daily. She loved sushi and pickled red beet eggs.
She was born to Tracy Leroy Dubbs and Elizabeth “Bess” Margaret Holden in Pine Grove, PA on 29 December 1931. She played clarinet and saxophone in high school, and loved to sing in the choir. She graduated from Harrisburg, PA, Polyclinic Hospital, diploma nursing program in 1952 and had a long career of nursing professions from the ER to hospital supervisor. She loved reading, music, arts, travel, and crafts. She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
She was a loving wife and nursed two husbands that preceded her. John Wilmont Whorley, Jr, 1928-1987 and James Edward Brown (her soul mate) 1925-2013, both career US Navy veterans and civil service employees. She lived overseas in Germany, Guam, and Hawaii; retiring in Glen Burnie, MD and later Daytona Beach, FL. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Fyrne Dubbs Miller 1919-1983 and Delphine Dubbs Anderson 1920-2016, one brother, Charles A Dubbs 1922-1996, and one granddaughter, Bess S Mihalek 1981-1996.
She is survived by one son, Steven J Whorley (Carmen), of Springfield, Missouri; and two daughters, Susanne M Wisniewski (whom she lived with the past 7 years) and Raenette E Carter (Edward) of Deland, FL. She was a loving grandmother to six and a devoted great grandmother to six.
Services will be Friday , Oct 22, 2021 at Volusia Memorial Funeral home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129, and burial at Deland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SADS Foundation (www.sads.org) in her memory.
