Funeral Mass for Frances Maureen Elko, 85, of Port Orange, FL who peacefully passed away Sunday July 17, 2016, will be 10:30 am Friday July 22 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange with Rev. Raymond O’Leary officiating. A reception will follow at Our Lady of Hope. Visitation will be Thursday at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Port Orange from 2pm- 4pm and 6pm - 8pm with a wake service at 7pm. Maureen was born in Youngstown, Ohio daughter of Theresa (Kane) and Elmer Perruzzi. In her mid-teens her family moved to central New Jersey where she resided until 1978. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School and a supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service until her retirement in 1993. Accepting and sharing God’s given talents was a priority for Maureen as God blessed her with the gifts of song, faithfulness, and gratitude of which she readily shared with others. She had a beautiful voice and performed in many community based musicals throughout her life. She blessed others with her amazing gifts when requested by family members at countless gatherings. Her blessing of music resonated at St. Peter and Paul and Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church and as a cantor and choir member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. In addition to her services at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, she faithfully dedicated herself as the director of the Youth Choir and Christmas Family Choir. As an active member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church she gratefully attended Bible Study and was a Religious Education Teacher. Of all her many accomplishments in life, her family was the most important. She enjoyed family gatherings, providing for and attending to their needs and she loved life and taught her children to 'laugh at the days to come'. She considered herself to be a very wealthy woman and it was measured by the love she received from her family and the legacy she leaves behind. She will be missed as a, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Left to cherish her legacy are her children; Andrea Eheman, Michael Elko, Kathleen Kovach, John Elko, Joanne White, Robert Elko, Theresa Johnston, Elizabeth Coates and Maureen Defeo; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Perruzzi; sister, Patricia Elko and 7 nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Elko and her brother, John Perruzzi.
