George Kenneth Shimmel, Jr., 74, passed away May 19, 2013 at his home in Port Orange surrounded by his wife and family. George retired from the U. S. Air force where honorably served and joined the U.S. P. S where he retired after 20 years. He loved his Lord, his wife and being with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara; children, Sonia Irvine (Terre), George Shimmel (Donna) and Sherry Westegard (Michael); sister, Donna Winters (Bradley); 8 grandchildren and 6 1/2 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, George and Erma Shimmel Sr. The family would like to thank FL Memorial Hospital for all their wonderful care. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 , Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange. The family will receive friends at the funeral Home 9:30-10:30 prior to services. Burial with full military honors will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery.
