Born in Havana Cuba 9/11/1933. Left Cuba in1961 with his wife and two young children Gilberto (Gilbertico) and Cristina. Lived in Colombia where his younger daughter Candelaria (Candy) was born. In 1968, he and his wife and now three young children arrived in Miami, Florida where he created his life, raised his children and lived the American Dream in what he always called America: THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY.
He is predeceased by 5 sisters and 3 brothers (he was the youngest of 9 children), Son Gilberto L. Garcia and Grandson Brian Patrick Collins. He is survived by his first wife and mother of his three children Ligia Garcia, his grandchildren Michael James Collins and Christina Elizabeth Collins, his son-in-law James Patrick Collins, and his daughters Candelaria Collins who resides in Miami, and Dr. Cristina Garcia of New Smyrna Beach.
He was a Master Electrician in the state of Florida, had his own business, and took pride in teaching in several of the Trade Schools in the evenings . He loved fishing, the Florida Keys, Politics, cooking and hosting great parties. He loved music. One of his favorite tunes was You are My Sunshine....
He will be missed by many.
We want to thank everyone who helped make his last days so amazing including the wonderful staff who took care of him in the NSB-ALF. The very caring and compassionate Vitas staff who helped make this journey peaceful, and so many others who in one way or another were involved in his care.
His final cremation arrangements will be made by Volusia Memorial Funeral Home and his remains will be buried in Miami with his son.
