

James J. Strauss, 85, of Port Orange, FL, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017 with his loving and devoted wife, Alice, of 64 years by his side. He was born February 8, 1932 in Bangor, PA. to his parents William and Mary (Mamie) Strauss.
In 1937 the Strauss family relocated to Tamaqua, PA and that is where James graduated from Tamaqua High School. After graduation, James joined the United State Air Force and faithfully served his country. In 1953 James married the love of his life, Alice, in 1953 and together they raised their family. He attended meat cutting school in Ohio and food service management school at Auburn College. After retiring from the food service industry up north James became a Food Service manager at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial in New Smyrna Beach and then manager at Daytona Beach International airport parking lot.
James is survived by his wife, Alice, of 64 years; his sons Allen Strauss and Jeffrey Strauss; grandchildren Cheril and William; four great-grandchildren; and many friends and neighbors.
The Strauss family will remember James as someone who was always there to help anyone in need. He was a gentle man that never raised his voice and always had the respect of those around him. James will be dearly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
