John S. “Jack” Aldenderfer passed away August 18, 2013. He was born November 7, 1913, in Collomsville, Pennsylvania. In 1942, he married Arlene Keller. Shortly after, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps, serving with the 315th Bomb Wing in Guam. After discharge, he and Arlene settled in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to raise four children. Jack began a career as a night clerk with the Postal Service and worked up to Acting Postmaster in Canton, Pennsylvania. The couple retired to Port Orange in 1978 where they became active as volunteers at the Port Orange Library and Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Jack was especially active with the Knights of Columbus and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also an avid reader, a Civil War buff, an amateur carpenter, and a lover of crossword puzzles. He had many friends of all ages who will remember him for his ever present pipe smoking, his sense of humor, his integrity and willingness to help. His wife of 71 years, Arlene, died June 9 , 2013. He leaves behind his four children: J. Michael (wife Jackie) of Port Orange, David (wife Michaline) of Williamsport, PA, daughters Rita and Judy of Port Orange. He has 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be 8:30am Friday August 23 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach.
