John Joseph Boyle, 83, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Port Orange, Florida on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 with his wife, Marilyn, by his side. Born and raised in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, John served in the Army from 1959 – 1962. He was a Master Plumber, Pipefitter, and Foreman/Supervisor spending over 30 years working for Pittsfield Pipers before retiring in 2004.
Those who knew John remember his competitive spirit and deep love for the outdoors. He joined the ski patrol before he even knew how to ski but picked it up quickly. From there, he continued on to find joy throughout his life in activities like golfing, pickle ball, camping, scuba diving, swimming, running, skating, biking, boogie boarding, rock climbing, and canoeing. He would go downhill skiing in the morning and then head out for some cross-country skiing. The Josh Billings trophies he won for running, cycling and canoeing filled up the top of his dresser.
“Keep moving,” was his motto. And that included travel. He and Marilyn signed up for ventures nearby and on four continents. They enjoyed taking their grandchildren on sightseeing vacations and then hosted their entire family on beach weeks and cruises. They drove across the country on Rt 66 and joined his mother on memorable trips to Mexico, Ireland, and South Africa.
He was family oriented. No chore was too big, or too small, but that he would pitch in to help his sister and brothers, his daughters, his grandchildren and nephews and nieces. He would install cabinets or replace furnaces or pick up groceries. For years he took care of his mother, first fixing small things around her house, and then helping her through the years of medical treatments and procedures. For his family, it is hard to imagine a world without John, or Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Johnny. His stories will be retold by his family for years to come.
John is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Marilyn, and their three daughters, Colleen Boyle and her wife, Laura, of East Hartford, Connecticut, Heather Boyle of Glenmont, New York, and Cara Leger and her husband, Brian, of Leominster, Massachusetts; and his cherished grandchildren, Robert Brodeur III, Julie Christiana (Jamie), Hayley Chang, Natalie Chang, and Sage Leger. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Dickson and her husband, John, and his brother, Timothy Boyle, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Loretta Boyle (formerly Collins) and his brothers Daniel Boyle and Michael Boyle.
In accordance with John’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
