Wayne was born July 4, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Norwood High School, and went on to attend the University of Cincinnati. He and his wife moved to Florida in 1977 and started their family in 1980. They opened Halifax Montessori School in 1986 and have owned and operated the Montessori School of Port Orange since 1990. For the past 26 years, Wayne’s passion and mission has been to educate and advocate on behalf of children throughout the Port Orange community.
Wayne was a loving family man who enjoyed attending a great soccer game, participating in a good political conversation, and playing a round of his favorite video game. He was the unforgettable guy at every party and truly enjoyed life… and a great meal.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Diane Scotty; his daughters, Shea Caffey and Sara Weston; his son, John Scotty; his grandsons, Giovanni Caffey and Madden Weston; his mother Georgia Holzman; his brother, Garry Scotty; and his sister, Kandi Elliot.
The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129. The family will receive friends and family from 6-7 pm and the service will begin at 7:00. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations be sent to the J. Wayne Scotty Scholarship Fund. Any checks should be made out to the Montessori School of Port Orange and sent to 3749 Nova Road, Port Orange, FL 32129.
