On the morning of August 16, 2022, Margaret passed away peacefully at Certus Memory Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Margaret was predeceased by Joseph Binder in 2014 after being married for 65 years to the love of her life.
Margaret was born in Romania on September 15, 1929, to Anna and Gorge Geier. She met Josef Binder in 1947, and it was love at first sight. Josef and Margaret were married in 1949. Margaret is survived by her daughter Annamaria Zeoli (John), son Joseph Binder (Judy) and daughter Brigitte Behrens (David). Her grandchildren are Steven Michalewski (Kelly) and Michelle Binder (Richard) and great grandchildren Landon, Logan and Brooklyn.
After leaving Germany the family lived in Oxford, NY, New York City, Croton-On- Hudson and eventually moved to Florida in 1979. Joe and Margaret enjoyed life in Ormond Beach, especially the German-American Club, of which Joe was president from 1991- 1998. They loved to socialize with numerous friends and celebrated with them monthly at various venues. While in Florida they owned a deli in Daytona Beach, and later purchased a Sparkle Ice Route selling and delivering ice to stores, hotels, Daytona Speedway and gas stations. That was physical labor, but they were happy because they were together. As a matter of fact they worked together their entire married life. Joe was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2012 and passed away in 2014. From that time on all Margaret wanted was to join her beloved husband in Heaven. They were truly life partners and proud German-American immigrants, who lived the American dream.
Margaret enjoyed cooking, baking, working in the yard, crocheting and knitting. Margaret was famous for her apple pancakes, poppy-seed strudel, honey cookies, horseradish sauce and German style potato salad. She knitted and crocheted blankets for her entire family including each of the great grandchildren. Her life was filled with great memories of family and friends. Losing her beloved husband Joe in 2014 was the beginning of her demise.
The family would like to thank Vitas Hospice for their loving care. Donations may be made in Margaret’s name to Vitas Healthcare, 1105 Saxon Blvd, Suite 100, Orange City, Fl 32763. The family is also very grateful for the loving care that Margaret received at Certus Premier Memory Care Living in Orange City.
Condolences may be sent to Volusia Memorial Funeral Home’s website. A private graveside service and celebration of her life will be held on August 31, 2022.
