

Sadie (Sallie) Marie Pulley Turley, 81, of Port Orange, went to be with the LORD Monday January 26, 2015. Sallie was born in Kenova, West Virginia and was the daughter of Leona (Bowen) and James Lon Pulley. After graduation from Ceredo-Kenova High School, she did clerical work for the FBI in Washington, D.C. before marrying her sweetheart John Turley on Christmas Eve, 1951. They have enjoyed the past 63 years together. Sallie began her college years at Marshall University in Huntington WV then graduated with a B.S. Degree in Social Work from Florida State University. Her love of the beach brought her and her family to this area in 1975. She began her career as a social worker with HRS (now called the FL Dept. of Children and Families) where she worked for 17 years until her retirement in 1992. Her faith life was very important to her. Sallie was a member of the White Chapel Church of God in South Daytona where she was active in the Choir before joining Covenant United Methodist Church (UMC) of Port Orange where her daughter Rebecca was the Assoc. Pastor. In 2008, Sallie and her husband helped start Venetian Bay UMC (daughter church of Covenant UMC), spending the last six years growing this church as founding members. In years past, Sallie could also be seen jogging on the Ponce Inlet beach and exercising at the Port Orange YMCA with her husband. Sallie was an avid golfer and was elected the first secretary for the Cypress Head Women’s Golf Association. She and John were part of a couples golf group that met weekly for many years and sometimes traveled out-of-state for golf outings. Sallie also traveled abroad to such places as Hawaii, England, and the Greek isles. Besides her parents, Sallie is predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 half-sisters. Left to cherish her memory is her husband John, three daughters: Kathryn (Rick) Cooley, Rebecca (Jon) Hyvonen, and Jacqueline (Ron) Green; two sisters; Betty (Bill) Dixon and Hazel Perry, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Covenant United Methodist Church at 3701 S. Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange, with Rev. Paul Pollack officiating.
