

Born in Portsmouth, NH, on 10/7/40. The daughter of late Bradley and Catherine Elizabeth (Ham) Spinney. She attended P.S.33 of Queens Village, NY, until 8th grade graduation. She studied ballet, tap and toe with Bobbie Gore Studios. She performed on stage for several years. She sang in the Manhasset H.S. Choir until the family moved to Kew Gardens, L.I., NY. She graduated from Forrest Hills H.S. in 1958. Traveled the U.S. for 2 years while working for House Beautiful & Harpers Book Publishers. Married Sherwood Johnston Jr. of Rogersville, TN, in 1960. Married Keith Lamar Barnhart in November 1981
Mrs. Barnhart was employed by Hawkins Co. Memorial Hospital of Rogersville, TN, for over 17 years. She attended WSCC in Morristown, TN, the University of Tennessee for the East TN Regional Neonatal Program and continuing education programs offered by East TN State University. She graduated from the Kingsport School of Nursing in 1981. Worked for the Christine La Guardia Phillips Cancer Center at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, TN. She loved nursing and also worked for Superior Home Health and First TN In Home Health Care during her spare time.
She was a member of Hasson 179 Order of Eastern Star for over 30 years.
She enjoyed making evening gowns and men’s suit jackets. She belonged to the Rogersville Society of Doll Collectors. She also enjoyed working with a Hug a Tree Program and man-tracking for the lost people in the Smokey Mountains. She had a large vegetable garden and liked to can. She raised hybrid iris plants and had over 60 different varieties.
She had to retire after having a stroke and moved to Port Orange, FL, in 2005.
She is survived by a daughter Rose Marie (Johnston) Finley, son-in-law Mike Finley of Fort Worth, TX; a son Raymond Bradley Johnston of Long Beach, MS. Grandchildren Sarah M. Finley, Fort Worth TX; Heather R. (Finley) Brasher, Grapevine, TX; and Jason M. Finley, Keller, TX. Great Grandchildren Cora R. Finley, Fort Worth, TX; Lennon Brasher, Grapevine, TX; and Knox Finley of Keller, TX. Also, Aunt Mabel (Spinney) Lufkin of Eddington, ME.
Ms. Barnhart has donated her body for research to the UCF College of Medicine in Orlando; FL. Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129. Final resting place will be at the McKinney Cemetery family lot in Rogersville, TN.
