Shirley Shook of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2020, at the age of 95. Shirley was born and raised in Niles, Michigan, to parents Carl and Nora Miller. After graduating from Niles High School she went on to attend Indiana University studying education. Her teaching degree led her to Plainfield, Indiana where she excelled as a third grade teacher. Shirley continued her love of education, getting her Master’s Degree in Education from Olivet Nazarene University.
Shirley loved traveling out west, visiting national parks, and returning home to Michigan to ski. She was very active and enjoyed golfing, swimming, and tennis. An accomplished pianist, she used her talent to bring joy to others by volunteering at various nursing homes and playing the piano for them.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, Shirley will be missed by many. She is survived by her loving spouse of 70 years, Richard E. Shook; her son, Richard WC Shook and his wife Patricia; daughter, Rebecca Shook; grandchildren, Brian Shook, Andrew Shook and his wife Alexandrea; and sisters, Dorothy Garbreck, Marion Hulecki.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Nora Miller; and her baby brother, Carl Albert Miller.
Services will be held Friday, October 30, 2020, at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home in Port Orange, Florida. Visitation will be from 12pm-1pm, followed by a funeral service at 1pm. From there we will proceed to Daytona Memorial Park Cemetery for burial.
