Susan Marie Lenahan

Susan M. Lenahan, known by her friends and family as Susanne, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2026, just three days shy of her 75th birthday. She was born in Niagara Falls, NY, to the late James and Thelma (Lyall) Lewis, and was the second of four siblings. She precedes in death her sisters Joan and Teresa, and brother Robert.

Susanne grew up in West Virginia, where she developed the resilience and caring spirit that would come to define her. After high school, she married Kenneth Simms II, and they moved to Virginia before welcoming daughter Lisa. Though the marriage ended soon after, Susanne met the love of her life a few years later, marrying Michael Edmond Lenahan. They later welcomed two sons – John-Michael and Michael-John, and continued to build a life of love and partnership of nearly five decades while living in Illinois, Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, and Wisconsin before returning to Florida to finish out their careers prior to retirement.

Susanne was a bold and loving spirit, embracing every opportunity with determination and grace. In life, she was a fingerprint clerk for the FBI, a modeling agency entrepreneur and owner, an advertising manager and executive secretary for two different companies, a certified nurse’s assistant, and she worked in the Office of Development for Stetson University, before retiring. She was also a world traveler, having visited several countries throughout the Caribbean and Europe. While her accomplishments were many, Susanne's greatest legacy was the unconditional love and generous compassion she gave so freely. A devoted wife and mother, and proud grandmother, her family was the center of her world; she never hesitated to put their needs or those of others before her own.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 49 ½ years, Michael; her loving children Lisa (Gahan) Hagerty, John (Stefanie) Lenahan, and Michael (Jeno) Lenahan; and her cherished grandchildren Lochlan and Tenner Hagerty, and Elia and Cole Lenahan.

Susanne will always be remembered for her endlessly generous heart, her thoughtfulness and infectious smile, as well as her love of shopping and always enjoying dessert first. She lived life to the fullest, always exuding a positive, giving energy and was an inspiration to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered and always loved.

A private celebration of Susanne's life will be held this summer.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church at 4675 S. Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL 32129, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11 a.m.
