Johnnie Wayne Beal, 71, passed away suddenly Saturday, November 13, 2021 in a structure fire. Born in Fitzgerald, GA to Johnnie P. and Inez Beal, he was one of four children. Wayne and his beloved wife, Linda Lilly, recently relocated to South Daytona from Clayton, North Carolina in April 2021. A concrete finisher by trade, Wayne was self-employed and owned Beal Concrete for most of his career until a freak airboat collision in 1995, that placed him in an unconscious state for 15 years. Afterwards, he would often say, “The Lord had to put me to sleep to wake me up.”
Wayne became a deacon at his local Baptist church in North Carolina prior to moving to Florida, and was to be ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Harbor Oaks in Port Orange. He volunteered frequently with the church’s food bank, and was a member of Gideons International. Aside from living his faith, Wayne was a supporter of local musicians, enjoying all music – even playing the drums and guitar himself. A kind soul, Wayne was greatly cherished by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Amanda Beal; four stepchildren who affectionately called him “Daddy Wayne”: Mindy Bacon, Carrie Harrison, Kelly Krahn, and Miguel Villanueva; brother-in-law, Rogers Willis, and lots of cousins and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charlie, and two sisters Linda Willis and Mildred Richardson.
A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held at a later date. In honor of his memory, the family asks you consider donating to your local food bank. Arrangements entrusted to Shannon Maloney Funeral Home, (386) 760-9660. The family also wishes to thank those who provided assistance the day of Wayne’s passing, including the Good Samaritans who stopped to help in any way they could.
