William Dunlap Jr., of Ponce Inlet, Florida, passed away on the afternoon of January 27, 2025, at the age of 84. This follows the June 29 passing of his dear wife Jacqueline (Hoy) Dunlap, with whom he shared 62 loving years of marriage.
In addition to his wife, Bill was predeceased by his daughter, Donna Ebke, and his parents William and Helen Dunlap. He is survived by his daughter Karen Balasaygun (Mehmet), son David Dunlap (Sydney), son Kenneth Dunlap (Amy), son-in-law Kirk Ebke, his adored grandchildren Torie, Mark, Kaitlin, Kendra, Peter, Kiley, and McKenzie, and his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Wylott.
Bill was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he enjoyed neighborhood games of street football, stickball, and basketball. He made his parents proud when he became the first person in his family’s history to graduate from high school. After completing his studies at Frankford High, he served briefly in the U.S. Army, then later the National Guard, and began what became a long career with Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO). While employed full-time, starting out in the mailroom, he attended night school. After earning his degree in business at Temple University, he ultimately worked his way up to a management position as a financial analyst.
Bill’s world revolved around his wife Jackie and their children, enjoying family trips to the beach, cheering on the Philadelphia sports teams, and attending his children’s sporting events. He spent countless hours cheering them on at their numerous activities and volunteering as an official at their swim meets.
After 34 years, Bill retired from ARCO Chemical and fulfilled his dream of building a beautiful home close to the beach in Florida, where he and Jackie spent the last 30 years. He enjoyed golf, bowling, crossword puzzles, attending concerts, and always cheering on his Philadelphia sports teams. He was a lifelong animal lover who took wonderful care of his own pets and also fed the neighborhood strays. He loved nothing more than having family visit from around the country and keeping in close touch with them when they were apart. Bill was one of those people who truly never met a stranger and could strike up an interesting conversation with absolutely anyone. He will be missed so very much by all who knew him.
