

William P. Sullivan, 82, of Daytona Beach, a native of Rockville, Maryland, passed away Sunday, February 13th at Halifax Hospital in Port Orange, FL.Bill, wanting to serve his country in WWII, lied about his age and enlisted at the age of 17, first in the Merchant Marines and continuing his service in the Navy. After serving 3 years, he returned to resume his United States Postal career, which he began at the age of 15. Bill worked towards, and obtained, the position of Postmaster prior to his retirement in 1983 after 40 years at the age of 55. All that knew Bill, knew what a “planner” he was. He and his wife fulfilled that plan, when after raising their family and his retiring, they built their home in Daytona Beach, FL. He lived his life to the fullest and made the most of each day, traveling, fishing, golfing and spending time with his family and friends. He was known as Bill, Preston, Pete, dad, grand-dad, great-grand-dad and friend, and he touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with. Bill believed that life was for the living and we will all remember his trademark sign off of “Keep Calm”. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Jean, of 58 years, his son Dean, and his grandson Patrick. Survivors include his two sons, Sandy of Fort Mill, SC, and Brian of Monrovia, MD, as well as his five grandchildren Natalie, Michael, Stephen, Adam and Amy, his five great-grandchildren Nicholas, Jacob, Garrett, Ryan and Wyatt and many more extended family and friends. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life on March 28th from 2:00-5:00 PM at the Daytona Beach Clubhouse Restaurant located at 600 Wilder Blvd. in Daytona Beach (386)257-0727. Mr. Sullivan will be laid to rest along side of his wife in Brookville, MD.
