It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony “Tony” Salvatore Della Donna, age 65, at his home in Port Saint Lucie FL on Saturday April 1, 2023. He leaves behind his mother, Margaret Della Donna of Port Saint Lucie FL; his daughter Kathy Wentz and husband Joshua Wentz of Port Saint Lucie FL, along with five grandchildren Grayson, Madison, Paige, Kaleb and Parker; daughter Christine Della Donna of Westminster MD; sister Judy Della Donna and life partner Luis Alvarez of Port Saint Lucie FL; his nieces Emily and Elaine Callari, and nephews Stephen and Joseph Callari.
Tony graduated from the University of New York at Albany State with a bachelor’s degree in science in 1980; earned his first master’s degree in Toxicology from American University in Washington DC in 1981 and his second in Strategic Intelligence through the Joint Military Intelligence College in 1999; he subsequently earned his PhD in Policy and Administration from the University of Arizona in 2011. Tony retired in 2016 after 34 dedicated and proud years working as a Department of Defense Analyst.
During his career, he served our Country abroad countless times and participated in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Desert Shield, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Pillar of Fire to name only a few. Tony was a hero in every sense of the word, but those who knew him best knew him as a humble man who loved sarcasm, a good book, a great meal, an awesome t-shirt, and a good laugh. His family (especially his grandchildren) meant everything to him, and he always smiled as he told people how much he loved his family and enjoyed the time he spent with them.
His family will be holding a Celebration of Life gathering at Aycock at Tradition, 12571 SW Tradition Pkwy, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987 on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you make a donation in his honor to a worthy cause of your choosing.
