Barbara L. Kiehn, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on July 3, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, with a move to Bayside, Queens not long after. Barbara lived a life rich in love, resilience, and purpose.
Barbara was the youngest of seven children born to Charles (Carl) and Martha Hutzler, immigrants from Germany whose values of kindness and resilience left an indelible mark on her character. Growing up in a household that emphasized strength and compassion, Barbara carried these virtues into her own life and the lives of those she touched.
A devoted homemaker, Barbara was also a dynamic partner in several business ventures alongside her late husband, Gunter Kiehn. Together, they owned and operated multiple businesses including GB Industries and Natures Den Health Foods. Her entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to her family’s endeavors reflected her unwavering commitment to her loved ones and to the community she served.
Barbara is survived by her two sons, Eric Kiehn and wife Karen of Stuart, Florida, and Roland Kiehn and wife Mary of Panama City, Florida, who were constant sources of joy and pride in her life. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Emily Kiehn of Panama City, Florida, Amanda Woods and husband Ronauldus of Tallahassee, Florida, Charlotte Kiehn of Miami, Florida, and William Kiehn of Panama City, Florida, and a step-grandchild, Geoff Posdal and wife Kristina of Bonita, California. Barbara found immense happiness witnessing her grandchildren’s journeys into adulthood and cherished the moments she spent with them.
Barbara’s life was further enriched by the love and companionship of her siblings. She was the youngest of her family and survived by her sister, Alice Ross (Joel) of Armonk, New York, with whom she shared a lifelong bond of affection and sisterhood.
Throughout her 91 years, Barbara exemplified a life of grace, dedication, and love. She was a woman of quiet strength and boundless care. Her legacy of kindness, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life.
