He was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and was raised in Newark, Delaware. It was there he developed his passion for sports, playing little league, working as a ball boy for the University of Delaware on both the football and baseball fields, and playing varsity football for his high school team. He played the drums, loved music, and was usually the first one out on a dance floor. He moved with his parents from Delaware to Florida in 1979.
Bruce, who was known to his friends as “DOG”, worked for the City of Port St. Lucie for 34 years. He worked in both the Engineering and Public Works departments. He was an outstanding heavy equipment operator in the Drainage Division and took great pride in his work. If you pass a swale liner, major street culvert, or side lot pipe in Port St Lucie, chances are Bruce installed it.
Bruce enjoyed anything sports related especially both professional and college football (Go Canes!). His favorite teams however were the ones his children were playing on. He was their biggest fan on both the baseball and softball fields. You could always find him in the stands cheering and whistling while watching his son on the pitchers mound or his daughter at 3rd base.
His family and friends were very important to him including his canine companion Bailey, “Granddogger” Zoe, and cat Sonata.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 25 years, Anne Pratt, children Bruce Edward Pratt and Jessica Anne Pratt, sister Susan (Terry) Vance, sister-in-laws Gaye Pratt, Peggy Chonko, Betty Podzorski, and Susan (John) Stoddard, and nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by twin sons, Tyler and Vincent Pratt, brother Michael Pratt, nephew William Irwin Jr, and parents Audrey (Donald) Zook, and Lester Pratt.
There will be a visitation for family and friends Friday, December 6, 2019 from 4-9 pm and a Celebration of Life on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 12pm, Aycock at Tradition - Life Celebration Center, 12571 SW Tradition Parkway, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987
