Millie, as her beloved husband called her, is survived by her husband, Hector Anibal Martinez; her darling daughter, Nadia Martinez Torres; granddaughters, Nadia and Steve Tague of Port Saint Lucie, Tamara and Bilmer Serrano of Fort Pierce, Darah Muñiz of Port Saint Lucie, and Edna Muñiz of Port Saint Lucie; and eleven great-grandchildren, James Sutcliffe, Veronica Cedeño, Nina Sutcliffe, Tyson Cedeño, Mia Swift, Jacob Tague, Jordan Hamilton, Marissa Gordon, Victoria Tague, Gabriella Calle and Mariah Gordon.
Millie was born on September 27, 1933 in Florida, Puerto Rico to José Torres and Anita Soto. She married the love of her life and best friend Hector Anibal Martinez in 1954. They lived most of their lives between Barceloneta, Puerto Rico and the Bronx, New York, where she worked in the Fashion District of New York as a seamstress. In 1955, the couple welcomed their only child, Nadia Martinez into their home and Millie set about teaching her the importance of family, self-respect and hard work. Her daughter remembers her as a stern, loving, loyal and unconditional mother who encouraged her to never give up and to be strong. Millie and Hector moved to Orlando, Florida in the late 90s and to Port Saint Lucie, Florida in 2013.
Millie was an accomplished seamstress and often kept her daughter and granddaughters in style with her beautiful creations, including making her daughter’s wedding dress, dresses for the granddaughter’s baptisms, and local festival coronation dresses/costumes. She was a loving, strong and determined individual who loved and lived for her family and who fought and worked hard for what she wanted. Millie took any opportunity she had to travel with Hector, often visiting the casinos in Atlantic City, Puerto Rico and her favorite, Las Vegas.
Millie loved to be surrounded by her family. She took pride in seeing her family grow, her great-grandchildren study and her family being so close and supportive of each other. Her family credits her for keeping everyone in line and instilling the importance of family, unity, and unconditional love on each of them. She will forever be the heart of the family.
A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at 4 o’clock in the afternoon at Aycock in Tradition. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Millie's life. La Novena del Rosario has begun and will continue until Friday, June 19, 2020.
