Doris G. Hoyeski, age 88 of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away peacefully at her home Sunday, December 4th, 2016. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 30th, 1928, daughter of the late Louis C. Gardell and Josephine A. Croce. A gifted florist, Doris was the owner and operator of Accent with Flowers until her retirement, though she never lost the ability to find and tease out the balance and beauty hidden in a handful of flowers. Doris was the widow of John Hoyeski. She was also preceded in death by her sons Glen J. Strodthoff and Keith Strodthoff. Doris is survived by her beloved sister, Virginia Breslin, her devoted children; daughters, Dorice Campbell (Christopher), Alicia Ashworth (Jeffrey), sons, William Strodthoff (Bernadette) and Kim Strodthoff (Debra), as well as her eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her rambunctious dachshund Daisy. ...and if this is all we wrote about her, we genuinely believe Doris would haunt us all for the rest of our days. A dedicated and loving mother, wife, and friend. A talented and successful business owner. That’s not to say that any of the above isn’t true, but to say only that would leave too much left unsaid, as Doris Hoyeski was not just one to read between the lines, but one to find a way to write between them too. Passionate. Feisty. Creative. Free-spirited. Funny. Strong-Willed. Artistic. Opinionated. Loving. Loved. So loved. These are but a few of the words Doris wrote with her life, fond words shared by those who will remember her always. Doris’s life was not always an easy one, but the way in which she lived it is testament to both her strength and spirit. She carried a rare kind of beauty, one only born of resolve and perseverance, like a blooming flower pushed through a crack in the concrete, defiant and resolute. Beautiful in her own right, made only moreso by her surroundings. She would fight for that sunlight, no matter what. If life wasn’t going to go easy on her, she wasn’t going to go easy on it either. Doris deeply cherished her relationships, most especially her children and grandchildren, but also looked in between the lines of that story and found important parts of herself there too. She painted, enjoyed Mahjong, and her passion for cruising gave her the opportunity to travel the world, yielding many memories and friendships she appreciated so dearly. One of the kindest but strongest, most resilient and most caring people many will know, Doris G. Hoyeski lived her life to the very fullest. She wrote a beautiful story, inside and out.
