John’s life was defined by quiet strength, unwavering loyalty, and a strong, honest work ethic that earned deep respect from all who knew him. He carried himself with humility and purpose—showing up, following through, and consistently putting the needs of others before his own.
Born on May 8, 1962, John grew up with a strong sense of family and determination. In his early years, he shared a childhood baseball championship with his brother, Charles, along with memorable summers in Wildwood—an early reflection of the team-first mindset. He attended Bishop Eustace Preparatory School and began working at a young age, including a role at Rickel Home Center.
John built an exceptional career as a respected executive, serving in leadership roles with Home Depot, Office Depot, FleetPride, JJ Powell, and Mahoney’s Garden Center. Known for his ability to assess business performance, develop strategy, and lead teams, he earned a reputation as a strong and effective leader, ultimately serving as a CEO and trusted advisor to many organizations.
Most recently, John brought his leadership and expertise to Trades Mosaic, continuing his work guiding organizations toward growth and success. As the Founder of Mullen Consulting, he advised small- to mid-sized businesses, helping them grow through strategic insight and disciplined execution. He also gave his time mentoring others through The Venture Mentoring Team and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
John earned his MBA from Emory University, along with additional leadership education from Babson College, and held a Six Sigma Leadership certification. He was also a licensed private pilot—one of many accomplishments achieved through dedication and perseverance.
At the heart of John’s life was his family. He met the love of his life, Shelly, at just 14 years old, and together they shared 44 years of marriage—years shaped by devotion, steadfast partnership, and a love that proved itself in everyday faithfulness. They raised two children, Danielle and John Jr., who were the pride of his life.
John found joy in the things that made life feel full: riding his motorcycle, boating, working out, listening to classic rock—especially the Eagles—and coaching his children. He loved the friendly challenge of trivia and crossword puzzles and cherished the spirit of Christmas and the time spent with those closest to him, including his beloved dog, Odin.
John is survived by his wife, Shelly; his children, Danielle and John Jr. (Ashlie); his grandchildren, Kensington, Meadow, and Roman, with one more grandchild expected in August 2026; his siblings, Charles (Cheryl), Michael, and Patricia (Rob); his sister-in-law, Jennifer; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Helen; his parents, Charles and Patricia; and his siblings, Maryann and Richard.
Visitation will be held at Aycock at Tradition, 12571 Tradition Parkway, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987, US, on May 7, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm.
