Born and raised in Rochester, New York, Mike was the youngest child and only son of Frank and Grace (Yeoman) Slattery. He was a graduate of McQuaid Jesuit High School (’62) and the University of Notre Dame (BS ’66), an education that developed and strengthened his strong Catholic faith, which remained throughout his lifetime (along with an abiding love for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame, or as he referred to it “a little midwest church school”).
His love of logic, rationality and mathematics led him to study Accounting, earning his CPA and launching a successful career in finance. Additionally he received an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1983. His career included and allowed for plentiful international travel and even two stints of living abroad in Europe.
In addition to traveling the world, Mike loved his dogs, music from the 1950s, telling a good story, and a well-made bourbon Old Fashioned (long before they were trendy!).
His interests were numerous and varied: downhill skiing, golf, trail riding and cutting horse competitions were several of his athletic passions, while instructing the game of Bridge, tutoring middle schoolers in math, and generally playing any type of card or board game were some of his more cerebral favorites.
Above all of these, Mike’s biggest joy was his family and friends. Tapping into his Irish roots, he loved to host people, and along with Sharon, his beloved wife of almost 40 years, was known to throw frequent and epic gatherings in all of the many varied places that they lived, including New York, Florida, California, Nevada and London, England. One would never be bored or hungry at a Slattery party!
Mike is survived by his loving wife Sharon, his sons Mick (Kristin) Slattery and Timothy (Shannon) Slattery and stepson Alan (Karla) Britz and his grandchildren Allyson, Kaylin, Jack, Kyra, and Brynn Slattery and Adam and Eric Britz. Mike was immensely proud of all of them. He is also survived by his sisters Sandy (Tupper) Brown and Susan Judson and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Mass will be offered for the intention of Mike on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 8:00 am at Holy Family Church, 2330 SE Mariposa Avenue, Port St Lucie, FL
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mike's name to an educational program for children in a rural community in Nicaragua:
