Leslie was born on June 2, 1938 in Lime Hall, St. Ann, Jamaica West Indies to the late Simeon and Clarice Wollaston. Leslie served in The Jamaica Regiment and The Jamaica Constabulary Force for a total of twelve years. After serving his country, Leslie migrated to the United States of America in 1967 where he attended Xavier High School in New York. After graduating, Leslie attended the New York School of Mechanical Dentistry where he graduated from the Dental Lab Technician program.
In 1979, Leslie moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he opened “Les” West Indian and American Grocery store on Broward Boulevard. The store was a great success. At the time there were only three West Indian Grocery stores in the area. “Les” imported products from the Islands for his vast amount of West Indian and American clients. Eventually, the larger grocery stores such as Publix and Win-Dixie began to take note of the high demand for Caribbean products and started selling them as well. After years of operating his successful grocery store, “Les” sold the store and retired to a quiet and peaceful life.
Leslie is preceded in death by his sister Cynthia L. Goins and step-son Donavon Wilson. He is survived by his daughters Andrea Graham (Devon) of Queens, NY, Andrea Wilson (Derrick) of Toronto, Canada, Nadine Lewers (Larry) of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Ann Marie Wollaston of Port St. Lucie, FL; 8 grandchildren, Jonathan, Kayla, Hugh, Rasean, Andre, Akailah, Adaijah, and Alaiyah; sisters, Hazel Cheltenham, Eileen Oreggio, and Arlene Silvera; brothers, Joseph Wollaston, Howard Wollaston, and Donald Wollaston; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on December 14, 2019 at 1:00pm at Aycock Funeral Home in Port St Lucie. FL.
