August 27, 1951 – October 7, 2026
A Life of Faith, Service, Courage, and Unconditional Love With profound sadness and hearts filled with love, we announce the passing of Sergeant Luis A. Acevedo, affectionately known as Jr. to his family, Louie to his friends, and Baby to his beloved wife, Clara. Luis peacefully completed his earthly journey on October 7, 2026, at the age of 75, surrounded by the love and devotion that had been the foundation of his life.
Born on August 27, 1951, to Luis A. Acevedo Sr. and Luz Maria Plaza, Luis grew into a man of deep Christian faith, strength, determination, and compassion. His spiritual foundation was established early in life through the teachings of his beloved mother and his religious education at seminary school in New York.
Throughout his life, he remained devoted to God's Word, reading his Bible daily and sharing his faith with others.
A Proud American Soldier
Luis proudly served his country in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant and serving during the Gulf War. His military service reflected his strong sense of duty, discipline, patriotism, and commitment to others. He carried the values of honor, courage, and service throughout his life. Although he wore the uniform of a soldier, those who knew him best understood that beneath his strength was a gentle, affectionate, and loving man.
Two Different Worlds, One Beautiful Love Story
One of the greatest chapters of Luis's life was his love story with Clara Colón Acevedo.
Their romance began in 2009, bringing together two people from different worlds who discovered a shared vision of love, companionship, and commitment.
During a Halloween celebration at Universal Studios, Luis surprised Clara with an unforgettable marriage proposal. What she believed was his opportunity to sing karaoke became a beautiful declaration of love.
On Valentine's Day in 2011, they united in marriage at the Polo Grounds in Lake Worth, Florida.
Their marriage was filled with adventures, vacations, cruises, family celebrations, laughter, and quiet evenings together. Luis was Clara's hero, protector, companion, and greatest love.
He never hesitated to express affection. His love language was simple and genuine: hugs, kisses, and the joy of being close to the people he loved.
The Orange Boat: A Legacy of Determination
In 2018, Luis faced a life-changing diagnosis of prostate cancer. Over the next eight years, he confronted his illness with remarkable courage, faith, and perseverance.
Even as his health presented increasing challenges, Luis refused to allow his illness to define him.
One of his proudest personal accomplishments was restoring a burned boat into his beloved Orange Boat.
With patience, determination, and the help of instructional videos, he worked tirelessly to bring the boat back to life. He dreamed of taking it onto the water, enjoying peaceful days of fishing and creating memories.
Although his physical limitations prevented him from fully realizing that dream, the Orange Boat became a symbol of his determination and unwavering spirit.
His love of boating and fishing lives on through his grandsons Danillo & Gianni, who share his grandfather's passion for the water.
The Orange Boat will forever represent a man who believed in finishing what he started, regardless of the obstacles before him.
A Life Filled with Family, Faith, and Joy
Luis found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed fishing, boating, grilling delicious meals, playing dominoes with friends, digital games, playing guitar, watching movies, and spending time with family.
He especially treasured gatherings with his children and grandchildren, whose laughter and presence brought him immeasurable joy.
He was a man who appreciated good food, good company, and the comfort of home. He had a generous heart, a warm embrace, and an affectionate spirit that made those around him feel loved.
Throughout his illness, Luis and Clara made a conscious decision to continue living life fully. Together, they traveled, celebrated milestones, enjoyed family dinners, and created beautiful memories that will remain treasured forever.
His Cherished Family
Luis leaves behind his devoted wife, Clara Colón Acevedo, who lovingly stood beside him throughout their marriage and his courageous health journey.
He is also lovingly remembered by his children, Abigail Acevedo, Cindy Acevedo-Vega, Jonathan Acevedo, and David Acevedo; his stepsons, Lenny Irizarry and Alex Narvaez; and his beloved siblings, Melvin Acevedo, Rebecca Reyes, Edwin Acevedo, Freddy Acevedo, and Yvonne Rosa.
He also leaves behind eight cherished grandchildren, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
His family will remember his affectionate nature, his determination, his unwavering faith, and the countless moments of laughter and love they shared.
A Soldier's Final Journey
As his illness progressed, Luis remained grounded in his Christian faith. He approached the final chapter of his life with the courage of a soldier and the peace of a man who trusted in God's promises.
On the evening of October 7, 2026, at 10:00 PM, Clara shared one final kiss with her beloved Louie, saying goodbye to the man who had been her companion, her hero, and her greatest love.
Although his earthly journey has ended, his legacy will continue through the family he cherished, the lives he touched, and the memories he leaves behind.
Luis will be remembered not for the illness he endured, but for the faith he practiced, the country he served, the family he loved, and the courage with which he lived.
His Faithful Journey Is Complete
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV)
These words beautifully reflect the life of Sergeant Luis A. Acevedo—a faithful Christian, proud Army veteran, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a man whose spirit remained strong through life's greatest challenges.
Rest peacefully, beloved Louie. Your mission on earth is complete. Your love remains with us forever.
Until we meet again in God's eternal kingdom.
