Marilyn Inghram Moore, born to Robert and Delilah Inghram on September 30, 1940 in Highland Park Michigan, died after a long illness on April 2, 2017. She was a loving, smart, energetic and eternally optimistic person who loved travel, the outdoors, and laughter. Marilyn’s family and friends will miss her sorely.
Marilyn was raised by a loving family near a small college town in southwestern Pennsylvania. She was active in sports, a member of her high school band, and a lifeguard at the local pool. She and her twin sister Marjorie were inseparable confidantes who were active in the 4-H and who shared a love of reading and trekking the hills around the family farm.
Marilyn married Louis Moore on November 1, 1958 in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. She and Lou traveled extensively with their family during his military career. She loved experiencing other cultures and was fond of history. She completed her post-graduate work at the University of the Philippines while living at Clark Air Force Base. She also lived in Okinawa and in California, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Texas, and Virginia. She loved being with children. She helped others through her volunteer work with a particular focus on children and their well-being.
After being a homemaker for twenty years, Marilyn began working outside the home. She launched and managed several child care centers, and then worked for both County and State government organizations. She found joy in seeing her employees succeed, had excellent management and mentoring skills, and inspired everyone around her with her can-do spirit. She retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation in 1999.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, her daughters, Valerie Andrews, Sharon Moore, and Deanne Wertin, by her son, Robert Moore, and by her twin sister, Marjorie Inghram Woodruff. She was blessed with seven grandchildren - Caroline, Lindsay and Scot Wertin, Rebecca and Natalie Andrews, Breitling Snyder, and Maxwell Moore - all of whom she loved dearly. All remember her passion for the ocean and how she taught her children and grandchildren to enjoy water sports. She was quick to tell them there was nothing they couldn’t do in life and to encourage them to explore the world.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 on Wednesday, April 5th, 2017 at Aycock Funeral Home, 1170 SW Bayshore Blvd, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34983.
