Papa was a magnanimous man. I can hear his laughter, so boisterous and heartfelt .  I can hear him speak, he commanded the attention of all those who were in his presence. I think back on this great man, what he did for his children, how much he did for his family, my heart breaks.  I wish I had more years.  Our last coherent conversation, I remember, was at Dougie's wedding.  He had a moment of clarity, where he recognized who I was, and he told me (rough translation): "Your father did a good job with you. What a beautiful girl he made."  On that joyous day, I was struggling with pain.  I did not feel particularly great, but in that moment, all was forgotten, as he lovingly held my hand.  I think he could tell, as, my uncle hugged me, told me that I would be okay, that he loved me and that God loved me.  All in one moment of clarity, he was once again Le Pere, that powerful man that commanded a room.

I know you are up in heaven, once again boisterously laughing, swapping stories with my Dad, embracing my dear cuz, Christine, and hugging it up with my auntie, Nene.  

I will miss you, Papa! Always
