Phillip Steven Morales

Phillip S. Morales, affectionately known as "Phil, Dad, Grampa, Meista, or Mor-or-Less" peacefully entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born in 1941 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Phil lived a life defined by unwavering faith in God, devoted service to his country, enduring love for his family and quiet strength. He believed that a life well lived was one filled with honest work, and leaving the world a little better than he found it. Those principles guided every chapter of his remarkable life.

From 1961 to 1964, Phil proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Boston as an Electronics Technician (Radar), attaining the rank of ET First Class. He then extended his service for 2 years in U.S. Naval Reserve, from October 1964 -Oct26,1966. Serving his country was one of the greatest honors of his life. He believed deeply in the American Dream, cherished the freedoms of our nation, and understood the importance of protecting those freedoms for future generations. The discipline, integrity, and humility he developed during his military service became the foundation upon which he built the rest of his life.

One of the greatest blessings to come from his years in the Navy was his lifelong friendship with Lawrence Wood, lovingly known as "Larry" or "Uncle Butch." The two proudly served together aboard the USS Boston, forging a friendship that would last a lifetime. Uncle Butch is also the one who introduced him to the love of his life, Kathaleen Wood Morales, who was Uncle Butch's twin sister. Years later, Phil and Larry would once again work side by side as colleagues, First at Comsat Earth Station in Andover, Maine, and then at Intelsat Corporation, in Washington D.C., sharing not only successful careers but decades of mutual respect and friendship.

In 1972 after living in a 70 ft trailer for 3 yrs, Phil and Kathy fulfilled a dream by designing and building their own A-frame home in Andover, Maine. There they raised their four children surrounded by the beauty of western Maine. Their family treasures memories of summers at Roxbury Pond, Kids Club, adventures through the great woods of Maine, and a home filled with warmth, laughter, hospitality, and unconditional love.

In 1978, the Morales family moved to Manassas, Virginia, where Phil accepted a position, that led to Project Management, with Intelsat Corporation. During his twenty-year career, he helped advance global satellite communications during a remarkable period of technological innovation. Colleagues admired his brilliant mind, thoughtful leadership, humility, and unwavering integrity. Though he accomplished much professionally, Phil never measured success by titles or achievements. His greatest accomplishment was always his family.

Phil and Kathy were blessed with four children: Lisa Kathaleen Morales Altizer, twin sons Phillip Stephen Morales, and Steven Phillip Morales, and son Paul Anthony Morales.

Phil was first and foremost a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, great-grandfather, faithful friend, and steadfast patriarch. His grandchildren knew that before long Grampa would be chasing them through the house, wrapping them in hugs, and tickling them until they could hardly catch their breath from laughing. His unforgettable belly laugh filled every room with warmth and joy, and his wonderful sense of humor made every gathering more memorable.

One of Phil's greatest passions was sailing aboard his beloved sailboat, Unity. Countless cherished memories were made sailing the Potomac River from Quantico Yacht Club with Kathy, their children, and later his first granddaughter, Kristen Megan Morales. Sailing reflected the way Phil lived his life—with steady hands, patient wisdom, unwavering faith, and confidence through changing winds.

Music also brought Phil great joy. He loved listening to The Ten Tenors, Luciano Pavarotti, the Gipsy Kings, Louis Armstrong, and especially Julie Andrews. The Sound of Music was one of his favorite films, and he never grew tired of hearing Julie Andrews sing. He also enjoyed singing karaoke, delighting family and friends with his enthusiasm and joyful spirit.His Karoke friends also became like second family to him, at the Legion 40, Legion 318, and many years at the Elks 1520, Where he also video taped all of the shows put on by Karaoke players. Phil found happiness in life's simple pleasures, including black licorice, Mike and Ikes, Werther's Originals, and a bowl of rum raisin ice cream—small things that now bring warm memories to those who loved him.

He was with the Military Motorcycle Vets for a number of years. It was then that he and the others worked to escort The World War 11 Veteran Bus to and from Miami for their trip to Washington DC. That program lasted until every Florida WW11 Veteran got to take this round trip in their honor.

Phil is survived by his beloved wife of sixty-two years, Kathaleen Wood Morales; his children, Lisa Kathaleen Altizer and her husband, Steve Altizer; Phillip S. Morales, and his wife, Racine Morales; Steven P. Morales and his wife, Christina Morales; and Paul A. Morales.

He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kristen Breedlove and her husband, Christopher Breedlove; Tyler Altizer; and his wife, Ana Altizer; Isaac Altizer and his wife, Courtney Altizer; Caleb Altizer; Ethan Morales; Joshua Suttles; Koenn Morales; Lucia Suttles; Luke Morales; Rhys Morales; Hannah Hoffman and her husband, Logan Hoffman; Max Hoffman; Andy Morales; Angelina Morales; Alexander Morales; Anastasia Morales; Seth Morales; Megan Morales; Nathan Morales and his wife, Ilke Van Rensburg-Morales; He is also survived by his brothers John Morales, Frank Morales, Joseph Morales, and Their spouses Chris Morales, Toni Morales, Sisters Carmen Schmidt and husband Bill ,Julie, Angie Cantrell and Husband Mike, Rosie Dickenson and husband John, Rita Dechaine, and husband Paul. Also brothers in law Larry Wood, Mike Wood, and Ken Wood and wives Marilyn Wood,and Sue Wood, along with many beloved, neices, nephews,and extended family members, lifelong friends, neighbors, and former colleagues.

Phil's life reminds us that true greatness is not measured by titles, accomplishments, or possessions, but by the people we love, the faith we live, and the legacy we leave behind.

Having faithfully stood his watch, Phillip S. Morales has been relieved of duty.

His earthly voyage is complete, his anchor rests secure, and his course has led him safely into the eternal harbor of his Lord and Savior. Fair winds and following seas, dear Phil, until we meet again.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Stuart Corinthian Yacht Club, 4725 SE Capstan Ave., Stuart, FL 34997. Service will start promptly at 4:00 pm. Family and friends are warmly invited to attend. There will be a buffet, and hopefully all who attend will be able to participate in Honoring his life.

In lieu of flowers, our family is grateful to those who wish to honor Phil’s memory with a gift to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, whose mission of supporting our nation’s military, veterans, first responders, and their families reflects values that were deeply meaningful to him and Kathy and their children.
