Ruby Christene Borden (née Ebanks) was born on November 3, 1930 in West Bay, Grand Cayman. She was the first daughter of Lee A. Ebanks and Aldith Ebanks (née Farrington). Ruby served as postmistress for the Cayman Postal Service. On March 24, 1954, she married her loving husband, Elsworth Lee (L.B.) Borden. Ruby and L.B. moved to Florida, living first in Miami and then settling in Islamorada in the Florida Keys. In Islamorada, Ruby and L.B. worked together at a fish market and cannery. They raised their sons, Danny Elsworth and Rolin Carlyle, in a loving home, where they always welcomed family and friends. On March 28, 1983, they welcomed their granddaughter, Theresa Paulina Borden, who was Ruby's pride and joy.
She and L.B. regularly returned to Grand Cayman to visit family and they treasured their island life.
Ruby and L.B. later moved to Fort Pierce where they made many new friends and spent time with Ruby's baby sister, Marguerite Mullens. Ruby and L.B. lived together until L.B.'s passing on October 20, 2000. Until the end of her life, Ruby traveled to visit her sisters, Madge Ebanks and Emily Jackson, in Grand Cayman and loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.
On June 15, 2018, Ruby returned home, surrounded by her loved ones.
Ruby will be dearly missed by her son, Danny, her granddaughter, Theresa, her son, Rolin, his wife, Sue, and their children Tony Shepherd (his wife Kelly and children Aiden and Kylie), Kevin Shepherd (his wife Ashley), and Michelle Diaz (her husband Manny and children Alyssa and Isabella). Aiden and Kylie will miss their Grammy dearly.
