

Ruby E. Schmidt, 89, of Oakville died May 1, 2016, in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Mrs. Schmidt was the co-founder of Activity Directors Association of Missouri and was an activity director for 20 years. She was an active member of the original Oakville American Legion. She was a former parishioner and active volunteer at St. Francis of Assissi Church and school in Oakville, where her four children attended parish school through the eighth grade. She was an Oakville Cub Scout den mother, a charter member of the Oakville Lions Club and a member and club president of the Oakville Elks Ladies Auxiliary. Born March 16, 1927, in Hutchinson, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Elva B. Bourell Brennan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years: Walter H. Schmidt.
She is survived by four children: Mike Schmidt of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Walter A. Schmidt of Pasadena, Fla., Pamela Schmidt, formerly of Oakville and Arnold and Kevin Schmidt of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren: Cindy of Sioux City, Iowa; Chris of Des Moines, Iowa; John of Clearwater, Fla.; Jenny of Barnhart; Andrea of Arnold; Erik of Germantown, Tenn., and David of Bartlett, Tenn.; 12 great-grandchildren; and a godchild: cousin Karen (Kunnanz) Collins of Springfield.
A celebration of life gathering for family and close friends and neighbors will be held at a late date.
