1949-2019
Surrounded by his loving family, Todor Mohan, 69, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2019.
Todor was born in Yugoslavia to the late Todor Mohan and Catalina Muntean. He immigrated to Kitchener, Ontario, Canada as a teenager, then moved to New York where he married Ana and his first daughter, Virginia, was born. After 3 years, the family moved back to Kitchener, where their daughter, Carmen, was born and then continued to reside there for 32 years before moving to Florida. Todor and his family lived in Fort Lauderdale for 17 years and settled in Port Saint Lucie 3 years ago.
In Canada, Todor worked for Cottrell Transport (now known as Clarke) for over 30 years. In Florida, he ran his own business where he was a craftsman and handyman. He had a huge depth of construction knowledge that he took pride in teaching to his family. He had a patient demeanor in working closely with his family and friends and often referred to himself as “DIY” or “Bob Villa”.
Modest, respectable, humble and kind are just a few words to describe the man who was the glue that bonded his family together. His pride and joy were his granddaughters, Nadia, Lia and Sofia. He cherished every moment that he spent with them.
Todor wore many hats and responded to the names Tosa, Tom, Turbo, Chitu, Tudor, Tata, Tati, Tadia, Dad and Babe. Todor was a past President of the Romanian Cultural Center, “Banatul”, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and a choir member and active committee member at St. John The Baptist Romanian Orthodox Church, a church that he personally helped construct. He loved Romanian and Serbian music but also loved classic country. He was a great singer and dancer and always enjoyed a good party. Living in Canada, Todor became an avid hockey and baseball fan and he was an exceptional card player. He had a contagious sense of humor, even up until the last days before his passing. He was known as the only person who eats a chicken wing with a knife and fork. He lived spiritually and his attitude was to celebrate each day with a smile. His outlook on life was that “Today is good, but it will be better tomorrow.”
He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Ana Mohan; daughters, Virginia Mihajlovski (Dragan) and Carmen Mohan (Derek); grandchildren, Nadia, Lia, and Sofia; sister, Maria Grnca (Jon, predeceased); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Panta and Persida Mundrean; and nieces and nephews, Violet (Mario), Jon (Dijana), Danny (Vanessa) and Paulie (Bryanna).
A visitation will take place on Friday, January 25, 2019, from 3-5 PM and
