Adelaide A. (Wilson) Lewis, a longtime resident of Sudbury, MA, and most recently Falmouth, ME, died peacefully on March 11, 2024 after a short illness. Her family held vigil at her bedside at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice in Scarborough, Maine.
Adelaide Ann Wilson was born on December 26, 1929, to William T. and Margaret T. (Murphy) Wilson in Needham Massachusetts. She was the tenth child in a family of eleven and was fondly remembered as the little Shirley Temple of Needham when she’d sing and dance on stage as a young child.
Addie moved to Sudbury, MA in 1946 when the Wilson family built a new home on Horse Pond Road. That same year she met the love of her life, Douglas R. Lewis, while he was hitching a ride in town. They married on August 4th, 1951, and shared 69 years together until his death in November of 2020. Together, Addie and Doug raised a loving family of 13 children, including 36 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren (with one on the way). Hosting many celebrations throughout their lives, they surrounded themselves with family; aunts and uncles, countless nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends – so many memories were made.
Adelaide was a founding member of Our Lady of Fatima – Ascension Parish in Sudbury, MA. Raised as a devout Catholic, her faith never wavered, Addie was the spiritual center of the Lewis clan, she had an endless supply of prayers for her family, friends, and others in need. She loved to sing, whether it was at home doing chores, or as part of the church or community choir, she always had a song in her heart.
As a grandmother, she knew and loved each of her grandchildren, and great grandchildren, remembering every birthday, graduation, and special achievement. While she was small in stature, she had a big influence in the lives of her family. All her grandchildren knew they had reached a milestone when they could declare they were taller than Grammie.
Addie was forever faithful, generous, kind, forgiving, and beautiful. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, or friend to so many. While we are saddened with her passing, and we will miss her dearly, we are very grateful for the life that she’s lived and for all that she’s given to those she loved.
Addie was predeceased by her parents Margaret & William Wilson & nine of her siblings. She leaves behind her 13 children - Mary & Jesse Senore; Michael & Patti Lewis; Danny & Jessica Lewis; John & Lisa Lewis; Joanne & Jack Kennedy; Paul Lewis; Brian & Cindy Lewis; Denis & Marie Lewis; Andrew & Stephanie Lewis; Martha & Robert Magdaleno; Doug Lewis III; Tom & Michele Lewis and Maggie Quinlan & Mark Hagar.
Along with 36 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, Addie also leaves her youngest brother John Wilson, her sisters-in-law Sheila Boyce, Hester & Bill Tinti, Pat Carroll, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Addie’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, March 22nd, from 4pm – 7pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, March 23rd in Our Lady of Fatima – Ascension Parish, 160 Concord Rd., Sudbury. Interment will follow in Wadsworth Cemetery, Sudbury.
