

Alan Douglas BerryAlan Douglas Berry completed his purpose here on earth and went to be with his Heavenly Father on Friday October 17th, 2008. Alan died peacefully at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME. Alan was born in Portland, ME in 1954 to Alicia (Gagne) Berry and Douglas L. Berry. After graduating from Deering High School in 1974, Alan enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Alan was employed by N.T. Fox Lumber Company for 10 years where he was regarded for his exceptional sales skills. He continued on in sales for many years before declining health shortened his career. Alan enjoyed competitive bowling for many years, during which time he was awarded several awards and trophies. Alan was a lifelong resident of Portland where he was well known and liked by many. He was a proud member of AA, and modeled his life around the 12-step program. Despite his continuing years of declining health, Alan was able to maintain his good sense of humor.Alan was predeceased by his father in 2001. He is survived by his mother, Alicia Berry of Portland, three sisters; Susan Lawler and her husband Buddy, Sally Berry and her fiancé Ed Gillen, all of Massachusetts and Betsy McCallum of Portland, and one brother, John and his wife Annie from Falmouth. He leaves behind several nieces and nephews; Katie and Kevin Lawler, Scott and Julie McCallum and Chad and Jessica Berry, and one great niece, Zoey Berry.The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the nurses at Mercy Hospital and to the staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for their loving care and compassion. Visiting hours will be held from 5-8 PM on Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at St. Pius X Church, 492 Ocean Ave. Portland. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland.
