Falmouth, Maine- Andre Roger Casavant, 50, of Falmouth, Maine passed away in his home on Friday, May 2, 2014 following a brief struggle with cancer. Andre’s wife, Theresa Martin Casavant, was by his side throughout their 15-year marriage, and in his final hours. Andre was a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and uncle, and will be greatly missed.
Born and raised in Winooski, Vermont, Andre was an avid skier, tennis player, and hockey player. He attended Winooski High School and Saint Michael’s College. Andre’s friends from Saint Michael’s continued to keep him laughing even in the final weeks. After college, Andre began a career as an environmental scientist, first in Connecticut and then in Maine. Shortly after moving to Maine in 1990, Andre met Terrie. Together, they explored the White Mountains, as well as more exotic destinations, and married in 1998 at Holy Martyrs Church in Falmouth.
Andre and Terrie’s children, Danielle and Drew, were born in 2000 and 2003, respectively. Andre was an engaged father, who encouraged both of his children to work hard, and to try new activities, even helping Danielle to get her lobstering license at the age of 11. As assistant coach, Andre helped build Drew’s hockey team, and coached them to the Maine State Squirts Championship this winter. That win particularly resonated for Andre, bringing back memories of his own victory at the Burlington International Games in 1976.
In addition to his wife and children, Andre is survived by his parents, Dominique and Lucille Mailhot Casavant, his sister Catherine, his brothers Tom and Jay, as well as several nieces and nephews: Lauren Casavant Huber and Brendan, Ben, Eric and Ellen Casavant. Because education was so important to Andre, an account will soon be set up to help fund his children’s college educations.
Friends and Relatives are invited to attend a time of visitation on Tuesday Evening May 6, 2014 from 4 to 7 P.M. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine.
