1925-2018
PORTLAND - Angela Marie (DiMatteo) Wilson, 93, passed away on Dec. 1, 2018, surrounded by family, after a year of declining health. 'Angie', as she was known by family and friends, was born in Portland on May 18, 1925 to Rosario and Josephine Proietti DiMatteo and attended Deering High School, graduating in 1943.
In 1951, she married Jean R. Wilson, in Portland, where she lived and raised her four children. Angie worked as a hairdresser for many years and later as the director of the Eunice Frye Home. She also did a great deal of volunteer work.
Angie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family was always central to her life. She cherished time together with extended family at Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July, and smaller gatherings with the "Italian Sandwich Club". She treasured her children and most especially her grandchildren, Benjamin Wilson and Natalie Gould, and Natalie's children, Angela ( her namesake) and Kayla, who was born on her birthday.
Angie loved spending summers at the family 'camp' on Highland lake, and in later years wintering in Arizona. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and was an active member of the women's sodality. She enjoyed playing bridge, stealing the show at aqua-aerobics, watching Ben play baseball and playing Bingo. Angie was known for welcoming all as family, and she had a mischievous sense of humor.
Angie was predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Josephine (Proietti) DiMatteo; her brothers, George DiMatteo and Bartholomew (Bart) DiMatteo and Bart's his wife Jesse (Lorraine); her sister Mary (DiMatteo) Guy and her husband Arthur Guy; and her cherished son, Peter Wilson.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Jean R. Wilson of Falmouth; her brother, John DiMatteo and his wife Patricia of Cumberland; sister-in-law Carolyn DiMatteo of South Portland; her daughters, Jeannine Wilson, and her husband David Marshall of Old Orchard Beach; Diana Wilson, and her spouse Kathy Neddeau and their son Benjamin Wilson of Falmouth; Kathleen Wilson, and her partner Gene Cote of Saco; her granddaughter, Natalie Gould, her husband Chris, and their children Angela and Kayla Gould of Berwick; and and many beloved neices, nephews and cousins.
