

Gorham: Anna M. Lord, 88, of Gorham passed away at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Sunday October 2, 2011. She was born February 4, 1923 in Portland the daughter of the late George R. and Bessie E. McKinley. She grew up in Portland in the West End and on Munjoy Hill. Anna graduated with honors and perfect attendance from Portland High School class of 1941. Early in her career she worked in Portland for several law firms, the Maine Department of Health and Welfare and for the Southworth Machine Company where she met her husband, Nathaniel. Anna and Nathaniel were married June 30, 1951 at St. Paul’s Church in Portland where she was a member. In 1960, Anna and her husband moved to Orono where they brought up their two children who were very important in her life. Between 1960 and 1980 she was very active in the Orono Cub Scouts and at the St. James Episcopal Church in Old Town. Later on in life while her sons were in school, she graduated as an LPN from St. Joseph's Hospital in Bangor in 1968 and returned to nursing school and graduated from the University of Maine with high honors in 1973 as a Registered Nurse. During her years at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, she worked in the Med-Surgical, ICU and Post Coronary and in Patient Education until she retired in 1981. A short time later, her husband retired and they relocated to Hollis, Maine. Anna was a member of St. Stephen’s the Martyr Episcopal Church in Waterboro for over 25 years and has always been active in her church. In her spare time, Anna enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing and special project such as upholstering furniture. She often spoke of enjoying the many summers together at the family estate at Laudholm Farms in Wells, Maine. In June 2011, Anna and Nathaniel celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together with family and were reacquainted with many old friends at a family gathering in Gorham.
Anna is survived by her husband Nathaniel Lord of Gorham, her two sons: Christopher Lord and his wife Christine of Gorham, and Jeffrey Lord of Cape Elizabeth; four grandchildren: Adam, Tim, Benjamin, and Rebecca Lord; one brother, the Honorable William McKinley. She will be missed dearly by her family, nieces, nephews and many friends. Her children are grateful to their father who devoted much effort to caring for Anna which allowed her to remain in her home until her last days.
A Funeral Service will be held 11 am Saturday October 15, 2011 at St. Stephen the Martyr Episcopal Church 424 Sokokis Trail-Rt. 5 Waterboro.
