

Scarborough-Anthony J. “Tony” Lombardi, age 88 of US. RT#1 Scarborough formerly of Belmont Street, Portland died Sunday morning May 23, 2010 at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Portland a son of Vincenzo and Lucia DeForte Lombardo where he attended local schools. Tony then served with the US Army during WW-II in Naples, Rome, North Appenines & Po Valley.
Tony was a Boilermaker all of his working career having worked at the South Portland Shipyard and with General Electric. Before his retirement in 1983, he worked as a Boilermaker for the former S.D. Warren. Tony was recognized in the early 1980’s for being #3 in the country as a cutting torch by Local #29. He was a member of Boilermaker Local #29 for many years.
He was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, and a Life member of the Portland Elks Lodge. His passion was playing cards and especially making numerous trips over 30 years to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed going out to eat. As a young man he told stories about taking a $100 bet to swim the width of the Charles River and he collected.
He is predeceased by his wife Dorothy (Blenkhorn) Lombardi in 2005 and his brother Sebastian Lombardi.
He leaves two sons, Michael Angelo of Buxton, Scott and his wife Joanna Lombardi of Portland, two Daughters, Linda Woods and her long-time companion Mike Dougherty of Old Orchard Beach, Lesli Potter and her long-time companion John DiPietrantonio of Portland, a brother, Philip Lombardi of So. Portland, a sister, Anne DeForte of Portland, five Grandchildren, two Great-Grandchildren and his special companion of five years Caroline Bowring of So. Portland.
Relatives and friends are invited for a time of visitation on Wednesday May 26, 2010 from 4 to 8PM, where at 7PM the Elks Lodge #188 of Portland will conduct a ritualistic service at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodfords Street. Prayers will be recited at 10:15AM Thursday May 27, 2010 at the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.
