

NORTH PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Augustino 'Red' Breggia, 89, of Portland and North Palm Beach, Fla. passed away on May 25, 2013 after a short battle with cancer. He was born on Dec. 11, 1923, one day after the death of his father. He was raised by his mother who came here from Lettomanoppello, Italy and his mothers and fathers extended family. He graduated from Portland High School and entered the navy serving on the USS Belle Grove for the duration of WWII. Upon returning to Portland after the war he started his own business selling range oil. Breggy Oil Service is now 67 years in business. He married Eileen Karolewski and together they had two children, John and Eileen, who now run the business. Red was a charter member of the Purpoodock Club in Cape Elizabeth. He hit his first hole in one in Florida at age 86. His lifelong memberships include the Boys and Girls Club of Portland, The Portland Elks Club and the Italian Heritage Center and Maine Oil Dealers. Red was predeceased by his mother who lived to 110 years old; his sister Anne Orinda Profenno and his brother Justino 'Dave'. Surviving are his son John and his wife Ann, daughter Eileen; two grandchildren, Eileen Dow and John 'Bud'; and one great-grandchild, Paul Wing Jr.; his niece and several nephews; Red had many lifelong friends that included Dolores Monterio, the Nappis, the Minervineos , the Dimillos , and many many more. Every Saturday he would pick up the phone and say 'bars open'. Red passed during happy hour. We love you and remember its 5 o'clock somewhere.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Friday May 31, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. Prayers will be recited on Saturday June 1 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home to be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church in Portland, Maine at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland, Maine.
