Portland- Barbara A. Faietta, 85, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2018 at 75 State St. in Portland. She was born in Portland, in 1932, a daughter of John and Mary Clowes. Barbara attended Cathedral Grammar School and graduated from Portland High School in 1950. Later in her life, she attended nursing school and entered the profession she loved. In 1953, she married Dominic Faietta Sr., together they raised four children. Barbara worked for many years at various nursing homes in Portland. She was extremely happy to have lived at 75 State St. as well. She spent the remainder of her days enjoying new friendships and sharing her Irish wit and humor for all to enjoy. She was an exceptionally talented knitter who enjoyed knitting for her children, grandchildren, family and strangers. Barbara loved a good game of Beano. She was a volunteer with the foster grandparents program, Bruce Roberts Toy Fund and Carrie’s Kids. She knit countless Christmas Stockings donating them to the Mercy Hospital maternity ward for all the December babies to go home in. Most of all she was happiest spending time with her family at Highland Lake, birthdays, Christmas, St. Patrick’s Day and family gatherings. Barbara loved Christmas and always made it a very special time, providing wonderful memories. She was very proud of her Irish Heritage; Barbara spent many years researching her Irish ancestry at the Maine Historical Society and the Portland Public Library. She enjoyed this very much and uncovered some fascinating information regarding her family’s history. She had traveled to Ireland with mother and sisters; it was truly the trip of a lifetime. Her fondest memory was visiting the Blarney Castle and having kissed the Blarney Stone. Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband, Dominic Faietta, Sr.; a son, Dominic Faietta, Jr.; granddaughter, Theresa Faietta,; siblings, Patricia Manning, Anne Traynor and John Clowes. She is survived by her children, Michael Faietta and his wife Jeanne; Maryanne Coppersmith and her husband William, Jeanine Eastman and her husband Brian; daughter in law, Deborah Faietta; grandchildren, Marisa, Adam and wife Rachael, Nicole, Alexa, William and wife Whitney, Andrew and Sarah, Stephanie and husband Tylor, Matthew and Nick; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Greyson, Eli and Haddie. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful loving nursing staff at 75 State St. and VNA Hospice for their compassionate and exceptional care. A Celebration of Life will take place this summer at the place she loved since childhood, Highland Lake. “May the road rise to meet you, May the wind be at your back. May the sunshine warm upon your face, And until we meet again, may the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand” Please visit to sign Barbara’s online guest book.

Wow Barbara was a woman not many people will forget! She was always so much fun to be around, especially at the lake! She was always the life of the party and I so enjoy just talking with her. She was one that always kept you on your toes. She will be missed by many but her memory will always go on! I'm sure she is already having a party of laughter in Heaven! Until we meet again Barbara! Love Cathleen and Norris
