

Portland, Maine- Barbara Currie Haraden age 87of Falmouth formerly of Portland, died peacefully Monday January 6, 2014 at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn after a short illness. Her family was able to be with her during her last days. Even though she was very ill, she was her old self, talking about her wonderful life, family and friends till nearly the end. She often remarked to the hospital staff that she had it all. She married L. Chandler Haraden on October 16, 1948 and they were very happily married for almost 50 years. They had a wonderful marriage spending summers with family and friends at Highland Lake. They loved to travel and did so extensively after Chan’s retirement making many friends. She was an avid and talented gardener and many will remember her by her beautiful gardens on Abby Lane and at her condo at Briddon Farm.
She was born in Waterville, Maine on February 16, 1926 the daughter of Michael and Jessica York Currie. Barbara Graduated from Waterville High School and Farmington State Teachers College. She taught in the elementary schools in Bar Harbor, Maine and was employed later in the Portland School System for 14 years. Barbara was also a volunteer at Maine Medical Center for many years.
Barbara was predeceased by her loving Husband, L. Chandler Haraden.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by a son Peter and wife Leah of Dresden, Maine grandsons, Andrew Haraden of Bath, Maine and Thomas Haraden of Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter Susan Harvey of Randolph, and grandsons Nathan Harvey and wife Kimberly of Conway, New Hampshire, and Brett Harvey and wife Hattie and great grandson Baxter of Anchorage, Alaska; and a daughter, Carol Haraden and grandson Jacob Auger of Middlebury, Vermont.
The family of Barbara Currie Haraden would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to the Staff at Foreside Harbor Assisted Living in Falmouth for the care and friendship that was given to our mother.
At Barbara’s request there are no services. A private family service will be held in Bar Harbor in the summer.
