Barbara L. Laprino, age 94, of Scarborough passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 22, 2018 at Gosnell Memorial Hospice with her family by her side.
She was born in Washington, DC on January 22, 1924 the daughter of Archie & Dorothy Tucker. Barbara moved to South Paris, Maine where she graduated from South Paris High School in 1942, and then graduated from Golden School of Beauty in 1943.
After graduating from beauty school Barbara was a hairstylist for Bicknell Photo Company/Konica for 25 years.
Barbara was an officer in the Singles Network now known as Circle of Friends, Past President American Legion Women’s Auxiliary (Paul Malia Post), Past Vice President of Cumberland County Council, Life member of Poland Spring Preservation, Past member of Cape Elizabeth Historical Society, served on the board as Secretary in 2007 for Southern Maine on Ageing, Buddy for the Cancer Society, T.R.O.A member & M.O.A Triade, served on the Executive Board for the Scarborough Seniors, member of Senior Voices & Seniors Series, member of Charitable Mechanic Association, volunteered at Scarborough Terrace, Maine Veterans, elected to MOAA Military Officers Board in 2007, and a member of the Old Orchard Beach United Methodist Church.
Barbara was a great supporter for the Wreaths Across America having made several trips to Arlington National Cemetery where she participated in the wreath laying ceremonies. She was a true patriot, and always expressed the honor she had to be able to lay a wreath on a grave at Arlington.
Barbara leaves step-children; Richard Roy & family of Windham, Dave Porter & family of Longmeadow, Mass, Sarah Boudreau & family of Falmouth, Me, niece, Tina Amidon & family of Florida, and her extended family Dorna Girardin & her husband Dennis & family with whom she made her home of Scarborough, along with her many friends and acquaintances.
There will be no visiting hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Barbara’s Life to be held Sunday September 9, 2018 from 12-4 at 27R Downeast Lane, Scarborough. Interment with ceremony will take place at Arlington National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest with her late husband at a time to be announced at a later date.
