Born December 22, 1949 to Helen (Morang) and Carelton Glew in Portland, Maine, Barry graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School prior to receiving his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern Maine.
During college, Barry worked as a toll taker at the ME Turnpike Authority and was a ski instructor at Sugarloaf Mountain. After graduating from college, he was employed by UPS for 14 years and then drove for the Portland Metro Bus Service, from which he retired after 25 years.
In 1997, Barry met the love of his life, Bernadette (Bernie) Mancini. Together, they enjoyed spending time at their home on Brandy Pond, trips to the mountains, and vacations to the Caribbean. Although Barry enjoyed traveling, he was happiest on the couch watching TV with Bernie. Barry will always be remembered for his dry sense of humor and love of gardening, and was known to give away the majority of what he grew.
Barry is predeceased by his parents, as well as his brother, Robert Glew. He is survived by Bernadette and her children, Dr. Mary Pickering, Deana (nee Pickering) Ryan, Frederick Pickering, and Katherine (Pickering) Sood, along with their families including 10 grandchildren.
Friends and family are invite to a graveside service that will be held Saturday, April 7th, at 10:30 AM at Evergreen Cemetery (section FF). In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation in Barry’s memory to a charity of your choice.
