Ben was born and raised in Portland, Maine, a son of Benjamin Louis and Gloria (Adrigeri) Alfiero. He attended Portland schools including Oakdale Kindergarten, Nathan Clifford Elementary, King Junior, Portland High School and attended the University of Southern Maine. A multi-sport athlete at Portland High School, Ben once pitched a no hitter against Westbrook High. Ben continued his love of baseball by coaching his brothers little league team, where he was a great influence on the kids. His love of sports
blossomed into his adulthood where he gained a love of New England sports teams, the Red Sox, the Celtics, the Bruins, but his true love was The New York Giants, where Ben would become known as a “true Giants fan” much to the chagrin of his family's love for the New England Patriots. As a teenager, to the day of his passing, Ben faithfully watched all their games, the last becoming Sunday eve before his passing, when the Giants played the New England Patriots.
If Ben was known for his love of the Giants, that was eclipsed by icon status at Harbor Fish Market. A family business that he spent his life pursuing, and helping build along with his Dad, Benjamin Senior, and two brothers, Nick and Mike. While running the retail operations for years, Ben bridged Harbor Fish to the local community and beyond. Ben was a well-known figure with his infectious personality, he made many friends through the business, a true icon in the community, in the same spirit as father Benjamin Sr.
In 1972, Ben met the love of his life, Robyn Norris. Growing up together, they fell in love and got married in 1977. Ben was a devoted husband and they remained closely together till his passing. Ben and Robyn were inseparable, always there for each other when needed. They were a beautiful couple.
Ben loved his family. He could always be counted on to joke with his mother Gloria, and his nieces and nephew.
His infectious belly laughs, along with his animated expressions of humor and exuberance, were the life of family gatherings. Ben loved all of his nieces and nephew, showing love and generosity. He had a very special bond with his great- niece Annaka Miller, she was very special in his life. Ben also had a group of friends that he cultivated into lasting relationships, most notably Dick and Jean Foley, and Lisa Kostopoulos, they were dear to his heart.
Ben was predeceased by his father, Benjamin Alfiero, and mother in-law, Norma Norris.
He is survived by his wife Robyn Alfiero; his mother, Gloria Alfiero; brother, Nick Alfiero and sister in-law, Kathleen Alfiero; brother, Mike Alfiero and sister in-law, Linda Alfiero; brother in-law, Frank Miller and sister in-law, Judy Miller; nephew, Rian Alfiero; nieces, Margaret Miller, Martha Miller and her husband Joey Shaw, Gabrielle Alfiero and her husband Peter Strangfeld, Rachel Alfiero, Great- niece, Annaka Miller, and great- nephew Alex Shaw, Uncle Dick Stephens, auntie Linda Stephens.
