

Portland- Bertina “Tina” Kearns, 93, passed away at home on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The daughter of Royden P. and Eva E. (Hillock) Ladd, she was born on November 10, 1920 in Portland Maine. She graduated from Deering High School, class of 1938. She was family oriented and always had something nice to say about everybody. She was always ready to help where she could, and put others, rather that herself first. Bertina worked in the insurance industry and retired from the American Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was a lifelong member of the Central Square Baptist Church, now the Deering Center Community Church, where she helped out at many of the church’s functions. In retirement she volunteered as a foster grandparent in Portland. She enjoyed her many friends where she lived at Northfield Green, and served in many areas there as well. She was a fifteen year survivor of ovarian cancer. Tina’s family would like to thank her Doctor, Dr. Gary Green and the staff in Scarborough for the many years of care they provided to her. Bertina was predeceased by her husbands, William R. Brazier Sr. and James Kearns, her grandson Eric “Rick” Brazier, and her four sisters, Winona (Warren) Shaw, Louise (Floyd) Bliss, Geneva (Russ) Haggett, and Hazel Ladd. She is survived by her two sons, William R. Brazier Jr., and his wife Roberta of North Yarmouth, and Richard L. Brazier and his companion Linda Lawrence of South Portland, her grandchildren, Diane Hastings, and her husband Thomas, Andrew Brazier, and his wife Kellie, Melissa Flayhan, and her husband Tony, Joseph Brazier and his companion Stephanie Wilkinson, and Elizabeth Brazier and her companion Jay Holsinger, her great grandchildren, Zachary Hastings, Ashley Hastings, Eric Brazier, and Anthony Flayhan. She is also survived by many caring nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday April 16, 2014 from 4-6 PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. Funeral services are private. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Portland.
