

Betty W. Maloney, 85SCARBOROUGH - Betty W. Maloney, 85, of Scarborough, died on Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 2015, at her residence, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Lyon, France, the daughter of Hugh and Eugenie Shaw Watson. Betty lived in Jamaica and Halifax, Nova Scotia, before attending schools in Philadelphia. She graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Massachusetts, and married Robert J. Maloney in San Diego in 1953. They moved to Maine in 1965.Betty was an elementary school teacher in South Portland, teaching at the former Hutchins School, Roosevelt School, and retired in 1992 from Brown School. After her retirement she worked during the summer months at the Candle Shack at Two Lights in Cape Elizabeth.She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and attending many of their activities. She also enjoyed playing bridge, scrabble, and traveling with her many friends. Betty was a former member of Cumberland County Teachers Association and Maine State Teachers Association.She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. Maloney who died in 1979; her two brothers, Robert and John Watson, and a sister Joan O'Donoghue. She leaves three sons, Christopher and his wife Mary Maloney, Mark and his wife Ann Maloney, all of Portland, Brian and his wife Sandra Maloney, and a daughter, Ellen and her husband Gary Fontaine, all of Scarborough; eight grandchildren, Katelyn, Lauren, Grace, Bridget, Sarah, and Krissy Maloney, and Matthew and Sean Fontaine.The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all of the caregivers who provided excellent care to Betty during these last two years as well as two longtime friends, Marge Ryer, and the late Elizabeth Barker for their support and continued visits during her illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life and Reception for Betty on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, from 2-5 p.m. at Joe's Boathouse Restaurant, Spring Point Marina, South Portland. Interment will be private at Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland.
